Carrie Davis owner of the Paper Moon had this to say to my son Keith Galick who took the photo when she saw my painting.
"I just saw the painting...MIND BLOWN. I'm almost in tears. What a crazy feeling!! Your mom is so amazingly talented. Such a beautiful painting. You must be so proud of her!!!!:):) It really was like seeing myself for the first time! You are so talented and I was really thrilled to be a part of that " Thank you Carrie and Keith!!!! This painting can be seen exclusively at the Fort Langley Studio Gallery corner of 96th and Glover. My latest painting featuring an abstract portrait of the owner the Fort Langley 'Paper Moon".......Carrie Davis. My son Keith Galick is a portrait photographer. He started "Langley Portraits".... a personal photography project showcasing the unique people of our home town Langley, British Columbia. It is done in his spare time and is a way for him to give back to the people of my community. Basically, it is just Keith taking photos of interesting people, and then posting that work to this blog.
I loved this image that Keith shot of his friend, Carrie Davis, owner of the local Fort Langley "Paper Moon" and decided to paint it. One of my instructors told me to always challenge myself and I have to say this painting was definitely a challenge. Not only the muted darks, the lights, the semi portrait but the layers and layers of colours and the reflective image of the car passing by the window challenged my abilities as an impressionistic artist as well as there is just 'so much going on' in Keith's photo. I had a lot of fun painting this as well as lots of hours of frustration but in the end I am happy with it and at least I gave it my best shot, learned a lot, and spent hours and hours painting. Thank you Keith! Here is the original photo that I worked from. langleyportraits 36" X 48", Oil on canvas, 3" depth, edges painted I will be delivering this painting to the Fort Langley Studio Gallery for this weekend's Artist Opening Reception Party. Saturday, August 2, 7 to 10 pm, corner of Glover and 96th Ave. Live music, wine and appies. |
